Electronics Courses CR061 and CR590

Our Electronics Degrees

Students with 2 Hons or better in their Leaving Cert can apply through the CAO for CR590 which is a 4-year programme and graduates get an honours degree (HETAC level 8) BEng (Hons) in Electronic Systems Engineering. You do not need an honour in honours Maths to register for CR590.

Alternatively,  if you don't have 2 honours but you have passed at least 5 subjects then you can apply to do CR061 and graduates will be awarded a BEng in Electronic Engineering (HETAC level 7) qualification. Those who graduate with an average of 50% or more across all subjects will be entitled to go into year 4 of the CR590 programme.

CR061 and CR590 share lectures and labs over all years, it's just that CR061 students need a 50% average in 3rd year to progress, CR590 students need only a 40% average. See the ladder diagram here.

CR061 students who finish 2nd year successfully can leave if they choose with a Higher Certificate in Electronic Engineering (HETAC level 6).
